Description:
Prokofiev's two symphonies on this album are among the most serious of his works and are known for their strong connection to the tragedy of war. The uplifting No. 5 and the No. 6, which he wrote with all the strength of his heart while battling illness. Both pieces are difficult to perform because of their difficult parts. The performance by Sakari Oramo is less aggressive, and focuses more on the inner workings of the piece, keeping the burning heart within a seemingly calm environment. The performance is a masterpiece of Finnish conductorship. Sakari Oramo, one of Finland's most famous conductors, took the podium of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1993 (as a substitute).Due to the success of this occasion, he was invited to join the orchestra as an assistant conductor, and since 2003 he has been serving as its principal conductor, while at the same time building good relationships with orchestras around the world. He is an accomplished violinist by nature, and having served as concertmaster of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, there is no doubt that he knows this orchestra inside and out. Naxos Japan
