Description:
Taneyev, who studied piano with Nikolai Rubinshtein and composition with Tchaikovsky at the Moscow Conservatory, became an outstanding pianist after graduation and left many works as a composer. This piano quintet is a profound work written in 1911, in the last years of his life, and the heavy, tense atmosphere at the beginning of the first movement, entitled "Introduction," is very Russian. After a long and heated discussion between the strings and piano, the richness of the music that unfolds is the reason why it is called "Russian Brahms. The "Seven Poems," Op. 34, also from his later years, is also included. Although rarely performed, it is a rich work in which the subtle emotional swings are clearly expressed.
