The Hours" is a 2002 American film (directed by Stephen Daldry, based on the novel by Michael Cunningham). It is a troubled story about a timeless day in the life of Virginia Woolf, a female writer who, tired of life and love, commits suicide by entering the water, and the three women involved with her. Nicole Kidman, who played Virginia, was highly praised for her beauty and performance; she also won the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role. The film's soundtrack was written by Philip Glass (1937-), who wrote eerie and beautiful music, tinged with obsession and eeriness, to accompany the convoluted story. Like Kidman's prestigious awards, the soundtrack has been nominated for numerous awards and was honored with the BAFTA Anthony Asquith Award. Although the original is played by orchestra, the arrangement for solo piano succeeds in further portraying the loneliness of the song. Naxos Japan
