A magnificent historic organ built by Vincenzo Colombi (1532–33) and adorned with decorations by the painter Pordenone, situated in the Duomo of Valvasone in northeastern Italy. This recording vividly revives the golden age of Venetian music—from Villard to the Gabrieli brothers and on to Merulo—through this masterpiece that preserves the essence of 16th-century Venetian organ-building. The performance is by Manuel Tomadin, a renowned Italian master who boasts numerous international competition awards and is dedicated to the exploration of early music performance practices. For this project, he performed based on the 16th-century historical document “Tabella Valvasonese,” preserved in the church, using the registrations of that era as a guide. The tension-filled resonance characteristic of mean-tone tuning blends with Tomadini’s exceptional technique, beautifully highlighting the polyphonic structure of each work.
