Beginning with Bernhard Heiden’s Sonata, with its clear structural beauty, the album features David Fontanesi’s Sonata (dedicated to Karaklis), in which a close dialogue unfolds between the horn and piano, Matteo D'Agostino's *Bacchus* (an arrangement for piano accompaniment of a work originally for horn and wind ensemble), which fuses elements of ancient ritual and Indian music, and concludes with Hindemith's Sonata, which depicts a unique world where tonality and tension stand in opposition. The performer is Nilo Karakisti, a leading figure in the Italian brass scene who served as principal horn with the Orchestra del Teatro San Carlo and the Orchestra del Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, and has been highly praised by the maestro Zubin Mehta. He is also a member of the brass quintet “Gomaran Brass,” formed in 1999, and is active internationally.
