The master of the Neapolitan school of music, who was twice the music director of the Neapolitan court. Mancini's Recorder Sonata with the virtuosity of a Roman virtuoso! Francesco Mancini (1672-1737) is known as a musician of the "Neapolitan School" in Italy during the Baroque era. After studying music under Francesco Provenzale, a leading figure of the Neapolitan school, he was appointed music director of the Neapolitan court after the success of "Te Deum," but was demoted to assistant music director when Alessandro Scarlatti returned to Naples. He was not discouraged by this treatment, but continued to produce excellent works, especially operas, and after Scarlatti's death, he was reinstated as music director. Mancini's "Recorder Sonata" will be performed by Maria De Martini, a female recorder player from Rome who was born in 1965 and is highly regarded as a composer of music for the recorder. De Martini, who studied recorder at the Royal College of Music in London and baroque bassoon at the Genoa Conservatory, has participated in many of Italy's world-class period ensembles, including I Barocchisti, Europa Galante, Accademia Montis Regalis, and I Turquini. His abilities are highly acclaimed.De Martini's brilliant performance of Mancini's Recorder Sonata, a work that is accessible to amateurs thanks to his superb compositional technique and flexibility, but which, through the skillful addition of ornamentation and other elements, has become a work for professional virtuoso musicians.
