Carolyn Sampson, a popular soloist with the Bach Collegium Japan, is the latest disc of Shakespeare in your country. It features works by 27 composers of all genders and countries, from classical to contemporary. These have been adapted into a five-act play with a prologue and epilogue. It is also interesting to note that other composers have added music to the same text, including Schubert's masterpiece. Although the Shakespearean music is mainly by British composers, there are also pieces by Haydn, Poulenc, Honegger, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Amy Beach, and many other composers from abroad. The jazz flavors of Madeline Dring and John Dankworth, and the tango style of Marvin Hoder, are also unique. The music is also diverse in style, from the contemporary "Rosalind" by Hannah Kendall, who was born in 1984. Baritone Roderick Williams, who sings solo as well as a charming duet with Sampson, is a well-known BCJ soloist. What a surprise to learn that he composed "Don't Sigh, Ladies," when he was 12 years old.They show their versatility. All the performers are British, so their persuasive power is divine, and no one can compete with them.
