Bezeidenhout's first appearance on the BIS label! Recordings of works by 18th century German and Austrian composers with the famous singer Sampson! This SACD hybrid disc includes works by Mozart, Haydn, and other unknown composers! Forte piano player Christian Bezeidenhout makes his first appearance on the BIS label! Together with Carolyn Sampson, she has recorded songs by composers active in 18th century Germany and Austria. The focus here is not only on Mozart and Haydn, but also on the works of composers who lived at the same time as them. Works by August Bernhard Valentin Helbing (1735-66), Friedrich Gotthrop Fleischer (1722-1806), and Michael Christian Wolff (1707-1789), whose works are rarely performed today, are also included. Helbing, Fleischer, and Wolff were both German organists and composers. Helbing received his musical training from his father, and at the age of 10 he entered the Magdeburg Cathedral Choir School. He left behind two collections of 70 songs, "Musical Delights" and "Musical Trials," and "Montan und Larage" on this album is from "Musical Trials. Fleischer's songs were widely circulated at the time, but are rarely performed today.Wolff was a composer who served as church organist in Stettin for many years. His works were published in Berlin and Leipzig, suggesting that his name was known to some extent, but they are rarely performed today. The keyboard writing style is very innovative and unique to Wolff. Sampson and Bezeidenhout performed these works along with Mozart and Haydn. The music of the time was excellent. The instrument is a replica made by Anton Walter, and the fortepiano is made by Paul McNulty. King International
