Description:

SACD hybrid disc of works by 20th and 21st century composers associated with Stockholm, performed by Stotin, principal double bass of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Rick Stotin (1982-) from the Netherlands currently resides in Stockholm. As principal contrabassist of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm is a second home for Storting. The title of his new album is "Back to StockHome. The album features works by composers who once made Stockholm their creative home, as well as those who are working here today. Merlin Broumans (1975-), who participated in the album, is the concertmaster of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Simon Crawford-Phillips is the principal conductor of the Vesterås Sinfonietta. They are members of the "Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble" of Stotin's "Voices of the Angels" (BIS SA-2244). The best-known work on this album is Tubin's "Concerto for Double Bass".Estonian composer Eduard Tubin fled Tallinn with his family in September 1944 during World War II and fled to Stockholm, where he lived until his death in 1982. This concerto was commissioned by the Estonian-born contrabass virtuoso Lutvik Juft (1894-1957) of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The four movements, which reflect the atmosphere of the post-World War II era, are performed one after the other. This is the second BIS recording after Håkan Ehlein (BIS-337). James Gaffigan (1979) conducts the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, an American conductor known for his many recordings, including the album "Americans" (HMM-902611). (1/2) King International
