The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Markki, presents the highly acclaimed Bartók series! The third concerto for string cello and orchestra is a SACD hybrid disc. The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and its principal conductor Susanna Markki present Bartók's third concerto for strings, percussion and celesta and a concerto for orchestra. Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta, completed in Budapest in the summer of 1936, is a unique composition with five string parts divided into two groups, with the celesta, percussion, and other instruments placed in the center. The concerto for orchestra in five movements is a masterpiece of Bartók's later years. The structure of the piece is such that each instrument is intertwined with the solo and tutti like chamber ensemble, and the three-dimensional music can be said to be unique to Bartók. The SACD layer of this disc is recorded in 5.0 Surround sound, multi-channel, so you can fully enjoy the acoustic effect by playing it on the SACD layer.Markki studied cello at the Sibelius Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he won the Finnish Cello Competition, and was principal cellist of the Göteborg Orchestra from 1995 to 1998. He is one of the leading contemporary Finnish conductors and has been the permanent conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra since 2016. He has released a series of recordings of Bartok on the BIS label, including the ballet music "The Scarecrow Prince" and "The Wonderful Mandarin" (BIS SA-2328) and the opera "Lord Bluebeard's Castle" (BIS SA-2388). The album has been highly acclaimed by Gramophone magazine and other publications! King International Inc.
