Description:
Gringolts has been on the BIS label for a long time! Ilya Gringolts, the young Russian violinist who won the 1998 Paganini International Violin Competition at the age of 16, makes his first appearance on the BIS label. Born in 1856, Taneyev is a pianist and composer who studied piano with Nikolai Rubinshtein and composition with Tchaikovsky at the Moscow Conservatory. He has taught at his alma mater since 1874 and is known as a theorist of counterpoint. He trained Scriabin and Rachmaninoff and also greatly influenced Glazunov. String Quintet No. 1 in G major was composed in 1911 and premiered in Berlin in the same year. It is a lyrical work typical of Taneyev. King International
