A lucid wedding march! A vivid Mendelssohn SACD hybrid disc by Dausgaard. The Swedish Chamber Orchestra, led by Tomas Dausgaard, is full of contemporary sensibility with its vivid orchestration. Having just completed a series of Schubert symphonies, the new recording of note is a collection of Mendelssohn works, including "A Summer Night's Dream. The new recording is a breath of fresh air, with a sparkling string interpretation, lucid winds, and sharp timpani that only Dausgaard can deliver. A Summer Night's Dream was commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prossein and performed for the king's birthday celebration. It is one of Mendelssohn's masterpieces, including the famous wedding march. The Tale of the Beautiful Melzine" was composed from a libretto by F. Grillparzer, based on the legend of Melzine, the sea nymph. Fingal's Cave" was composed based on his impressions of Fingal's Cave on the island of Staffa during a trip to the Hebrides in Scotland. Since becoming music director of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in 1997, Dausgaard has recorded extensively for the BIS and Simax labels.His extremely bold interpretations of Schumann, Beethoven, and Schubert symphonies have received rave reviews.
