Floridium, one of the world's leading British ensembles of ancient music, presents its latest recording of French Baroque works by François Couperin, the "Grande Couperin" and Jean-Féry Lebel, two of the greatest composers of the French Baroque! From Couperin's famous suite "Les peoples", which depicts people from four different countries: the French, the Spanish, the people of the Holy Roman Empire, and the people of Piedmont, the first suite "Les peoples de France" and the second suite "Les peoples de Spain". Rubell, who studied under Lully and is famous for his ballet music, "The Four Elements," presents a variety of dances that, as the name implies, are lively and full of charm. The Floridium is a high quality ensemble known for its early members, including Rachel Podger.The group is currently led by Bojan Cicich, a student of Podger's and a member of the "Brecon Baroque" group led by Podger, on first violin, and features such virtuosos as Reiko Ichise, a Japanese gambist active in the British classical music scene, and Ashley Solomon, founder, director, and flutist.
