Titled *Julia*, the album was created in collaboration with Brian Robert Jones (Paramore, Vampire Weekend) and producer Chris Cordy (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House), and will be released via Partisan Records (PJ Harvey, Idols, Geese). ● Featured musicians: Garrett Ray (Olivia Rodrigo, SIA), Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Beck, Jellyfish), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and others Julia Cumming, a fixture of the New York music scene since forming the critically acclaimed teen rock band SunflowerBean, is releasing her highly anticipated debut album *Julia* via Partisan Records. With this release, she joins the label’s dynamic roster of artists, which includes Geese, Cameron Winter, PJ Harvey, IDLES, and Blondshell. Hailed over the past few years as a “versatile frontwoman who transcends genres with a voice that is both soft and steel-strong,” Julia opens a new chapter with this album. This is not merely a change of image, but an unadorned, clear declaration and a complete creative rebirth. The album was produced and engineered by her collaborator Brian Robert Jones (Paramore, Vampire Weekend) and producer/engineer Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Grizzly Bear, Beach House), with a studio band featuring drummer Garrett Ray (Olivia Rodrigo, SIA), keyboardist Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Beck), and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), who played guitar on two tracks. Throughout the process, Julia learned to draw inspiration from the artists who influenced her most: Burt Bacharach, Carol King, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and the “one and only, eternal” Brian Wilson. ‘Julia’ is a confident debut shaped by autonomy, artistic freedom, and the quiet courage to choose one’s own path. Rooted in classic American songwriting and emotional clarity, the album traces Cumming’s journey toward self-acceptance—through memory (‘Please Let Me Remember This,’ a plea to hold onto fleeting joys), love and loss (as in “Fucking Closure,” where tenderness and melancholy coexist), and the personal liberation expressed in the opening track “My Life,” which completely rejects external judgment. Throughout, *Julia* finds freedom not through reinvention, but through liberation and letting go. Freed from expectations, the gaze of others, and the pressure to be “good enough” for someone else, she embraces joy, vulnerability, and autonomy on her own terms.
