The long-awaited debut release of the ERIC MARTIN BAND’s legendary second album—recorded in 1983 but left dormant for over 40 years—is finally here from Metallic Blue Records!! Eric Martin, who began his career with the San Francisco-based band 415, later formed the ERIC MARTIN BAND as an evolution of that group. In 1983, they released their debut album, *Sucker For a Pretty Face*, on Elektra Records, garnering attention for its sophisticated AOR-based melodies and exceptional vocals. Their follow-up, *Looks Can Be Deceiving*, was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios but was shelved after the band’s contract was terminated due to a dispute between manager Herbie Herbert and the label. Consequently, the band was forced to suspend activities, and Eric went on to pursue a solo career before joining Mr. Big. While this album follows the AOR style of its predecessor, the sound has evolved to feature edgier guitars and a rhythm section with a crisp, punchy sound. It blends West Coast-style melodic chorus work with a dry, crisp ’80s production, successfully balancing pop sensibilities with the dynamism of hard rock at a high level. This pivotal transitional work features the powerful vocal approach that would later define Mr. Big.
