Here is a very rare arrangement of Shostakovich's "Cello Concerto No. 1" and Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme" performed only by cello. The project, undertaken in the Corona disaster, was conducted by Ksenia Jankovich and her students, eight young cellists, and was released with the permission of Shostakovich's widow, Irina Shostakovich, and DSCH Publications. The performance is a masterpiece of tonal cohesion, partly due to the fact that they are played on the same instrument, and the expressive power of the cello instrument is once again astonishing. Ksenia Jankovic, born in Serbia, studied with Mstislav Rostropovich and then with Pierre Fournier and Andre Navarre.After winning the first prize at the Gaspard Casado International Cello Competition, he has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, including as a member of the Hamlet Piano Trio, and also teaches at the Detmold University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany.
