Description:
This is the world premiere of a very rare recording by the genius multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk, made on November 26, 1963, at the sacred Village Gate in New York City.
Performing with him are pianists Horace Parlan, Melvin Rhein, and Jane Getz, bassist Henry Grimes, and drummer Sonny Brown.
This work was released with the cooperation of Kirk's widow, Dothan Kirk of the Rahsaan Roland Kirk Foundation. The recordings were originally recorded for a documentary film about Kirk, but the filmmaker passed away after the concert, and the tapes lay in the vaults of the recording engineer at the time for the next 62 years.
It was transcribed from the original tape, restored and mastered by Mathieu Lutens (The Mastering Lab), and pressed at Le Vinylist, an audiophile pressing plant in Quebec, Canada.Limited 180g weight double LP with rare photos by Jan Persson, Tom Kopi, Raymond Ross and others, new liner notes by writers John Kruse and May Cobb, and never-before-seen photos by Jane Getz, saxophone great James Carter Tom Kopi, Raymond Ross and others, New liner notes by writers John Kruse and May Cobb, and interviews and testimonials by Jane Getz, sax masters James Carter and Chico Freeman, trombonist Steve Toole, and Adam Dorn, son of longtime Kirk producer and supporter Joel Dorn. and other longtime producers and supporters of Kirk.
