Hear the cello concertos of Saint-Saëns and Lalo, two great masters of French Romanticism. Maya Bogdanovic is a Serbian cellist based in Paris who has won first prize at the Aldo Pariso Cello Competition. She will perform with the RTS Symphony Orchestra, one of Serbia's leading orchestras. Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1 has a fascinating solo part that is highly effective in its performance and is the result of a thorough study of the instrument's possibilities. The three movements are played in uninterrupted succession, and the form of the work is also very well thought out. The "Allegro appassionato" is a short piece written as an encore piece, but it is also beautiful, and the instrumentation is skillfully handled. Lalo is famous for his "Spanish Symphony." In the cello concerto, too, although no Spanish folk songs appear, the music is colored by characteristic rhythms and melodies with a Spanish flavor. King International
