A collection of violin sonatas unearthed from the Pisendel library! Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755), one of the greatest violinists of the 18th century, was a renowned concertmaster of the Dresden Court Orchestra under the reign of the enlightened monarch Friedrich August II. He is regarded as an important link between the Italian and German violin schools, and among his many remaining works, his Sonata for Violin and Passing Bass is notable for both quality and quantity. Claudio Lado, who studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel Schola Cantorum) and was deeply fascinated by Pisendel's personality and works, has selected a number of particularly interesting works from his valuable archival research, transcription, and organization. The collaboration with the talented harpsichordist Julio Caballero Perez and the highly accomplished sound production by the excellent recording team (Tritonus led by Markus Hyland) are also major attractions.
