Joni Mitchell celebrated her 75th birthday on November 7, 2018. Finally, a video recording of the All-Star Tribute Concert celebrating the birth of the greatest singer-songwriter of all time, who continues to enjoy overwhelming support and respect throughout the ages, is now available. The 75th All-Star Tribute Concert to Joni Mitchell was held on November 6 and 7, 2018, and as befits a singer who has performed with and influenced numerous artists across genres and eras since her debut in 1968, the artists who took the stage were truly diverse. The artists who have taken the stage have been diverse indeed. She has performed with and influenced Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, Chaka Khan, Graham Nash, Brandi Carlisle, Rufus Wainwright, James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Seal, Glen Hansard, Los Lobos & La Marisoul, Cesar Castro, Sochi Flores, and numerous other artists have graced this special evening. Also serving as musical directors for the concert were drummer Brian Braid and pianist John Cowherd. The dreamlike tribute concert was recorded on video in the newly released "JONI MITCHELL 75: A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION [DVD]".Included here are miraculous live performances of Joni Mitchell's songs performed with the utmost respect and love by the participating artists. Seal, for example, performs a tender version of the title track from Joni Mitchell's second album, "Lights and Shadows of Youth," while Norah Jones picks up the title track from "Coat and Spark" and "Borderline" from "Wind Indigo" and and "Borderline" from "Indigo of the Winds". Rufus Wainwright performed "All I Want" and "Blue" from Joni's 1971 masterpiece, "Blue," which has been acclaimed as one of her best works. It is also interesting to note that artists who have walked with her through the ages perform songs that are filled with fond memories of her. James Taylor chose "River" from "Blue" and "Woodstock" from "Ladies of the Canyon" (this one with Seal). Both songs were recorded by Joni when they were dating. And Graham Nash will play the piano and sing "Our House," a song about the Laurel Canyon house where he lived with her. It was the only song performed at the concert that was not by Joni Mitchell.The special concert will conclude with "BigYellow Taxi," which brings together all of the participating artists. Joni, who has been battling an illness since her collapse in 2015, showed up at this tribute concert to blow out the candles on her birthday cake and to join the participating artists on stage for "Big Yellow Taxi," a song that is sure to be a moving finale, She is on the road to recovery, as evidenced by her appearance at this tribute concert, blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, and joining the participating artists on stage for "Big Yellow Taxi". Finally, the supreme birthday concert celebrating this rare artist and the music she created is now available on DVD for fans to enjoy.
