Award-winning director Joe Wright has wrapped moviegoers in a moving symphony of music, romance, and beauty in this musical drama production that retells the timeless story of a heartbreaking love triangle. Cyrano de Bergerac, a man ahead of his time played by Peter Dinklage, captivates whether in a fierce verbal joust or a brilliant swordfight duel. However, Cyrano is convinced that his appearance does not qualify him for the love of his best friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), and while he has yet to express his feelings to her, Roxanne falls in love at first sight with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.). Cyrano's powerful soundtrack, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, features lyrics and music by Bryce and Aaron Dessner of the Grammy Award-winning American rock band The National, with lyrics by Matt Berninger and composer Caryn Besser of the same band. The soundtrack features vocals from the cast of Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Glen Hansard, as well as music from the London Contemporary Orchestra and a solo piano piece by Bryce Desner, " Saying Goodbye," with renowned pianist Vikngil Olafsson performing throughout. The song "Somebody Desperate," which appears in the end credits of the film, is particularly special on this soundtrack, as The National wrote the lyrics and composed the music and performed it themselves. This soundtrack is the first new work for the Desnery brothers since Taylor Swift's hit album Folklore, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for a work co-produced and co-written by Aaron Desner and orchestrated by Blythe. The new album is a new work by Taylor Swift.
