Mark Knopfler: Born August 12, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, Mark Knopfler is a songwriter, film music author, guitarist, and record producer, best known as lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for Dire Straits, which he formed with his brother David in 1977. Dire Straits disbanded in 1995. In 1995, Dire Straits disbanded, and he has been releasing music consistently as a solo artist since then. An accomplished songwriter/guitarist, Mark has performed with Chet Atkins, Chris Botti, The Chieftains, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, Emmylou Harris, Jools Holland, Sonny Landreth, Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Sting, and James Taylor.He has also produced work for Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, and Randy Newman. Guitarist=Mark Knopfler: Ranked #27 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. His signature sound comes from his fingerstyle.
