The Cure, formed in 1978 and led by Robert Smith, one of Britain's leading bands, has announced the release of its 14th album, "Songs of A Lost World," its first in 16 years. The opening track, "Alone," has been released prior to the album's release. Robert Smith commented on "Alone," which will be the opening track of "Songs Of A Lost World," as follows. This is the song that unlocked the keys to the album." The moment we recorded part of the song, we knew it was the right choice for the opening track, and we felt we had a vision for the entire album. For a long time, I struggled to find the right lyrics for the opening song of the album. I had been working around the simple idea of 'being lonely,' but there was always a feeling in the back of my mind that the first phrase had already been chosen.The moment we finished recording, I was reminded of the poem 'Dregs' by English poet Ernest Dowson, and I knew this song, and this album, was the real deal." The album's songs were first performed on The Cure's 90-day, 33-country "Shows Of A Lost World" tour, which drew more than 1.3 million people to overwhelming fan and critical acclaim.
