Monieuxco's 200th Anniversary! Piano Transcriptions by Katsaris! A new recording of the superb piano wizard Cyprian Katsaris is now available from the Polish National Institute of Chopin (NIFC)! Stanislaw Leszczynski, Deputy Director of the NIFC and Artistic Director of the "Chopin and His European International Music Festival", fell in love with Katsaris' playing, He asked Katsaris to give a concert on May 5, 2019, the bicentennial of Stanislaw Monieuszko's birth, and Katsaris, whose birthday happens to fall on the same day (May 5), readily agreed. Monieuszko, known as the "father of Polish opera," wrote many operas, operettas, masses, and songs, but only a limited number of piano works, and this album includes a few piano pieces by Monieuszko and mazurkas from two famous operas that the composer himself arranged ("Halka" and "Ghost House"), The collection also includes piano transcriptions from operas and songs by various composers.These wonderful works by Monieuszko (especially the Cossacks, Dumka, and Nocturne), Katsaris praises, "if played as encores around the world, would be an international hit and help spread the name of this great Polish genius."
