Description:
Where is the Stradivarius played by the legendary virtuoso? A unique compilation album pairing a documentary film tracking the surviving "Wieniawski violin" with a prayerful collection of masterpieces. Poland's legendary violinist, Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880). What fate befell the master instruments he cherished throughout his life after his death? This conceptual album combines a documentary film (DVD) tracing the journey of their "souls" with a CD featuring related program music. 〈CD: Music of Prayer and Serenity〉 On the CD portion, director Cemplik himself performs on violin. Alongside works by Wieniawski himself, it includes an intimate collection of masterpieces such as four renditions of "Ave Maria," "Air on the G String," "Träumerei," and "Albinoni's Adagio." The inclusion of works by the lesser-known Polish composer Alfons Szczerbinski (1858-1895) is a testament to the distinctive dedication characteristic of the Polish DUX label. 〈DVD: In Search of Legendary Instruments〉 This documentary, produced over four years by violinist Wojciech Chmielik—who also works as a filmmaker and director—tracks the legacy of three surviving violins (including Stradivarius instruments) once played by Wieniawski. It visits world-renowned virtuosos who know their sound and memory. The film features Bartłomiej Nijoh (former Principal Concertmaster of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich), who once played one of these legendary instruments, its current player, Klara Sahatci (Principal Concertmaster of the same orchestra), and Paul Huang, who inherited another cherished instrument. This is a valuable visual record exploring the mysterious relationship between instrument and player, revealing how a legendary instrument "behaves" in the hands of a master. ※Please note: The DVD can only be played on PAL-compatible players or PCs.
