This 2-CD album celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Sukrowaczewski (1923-2017), a Polish master of the 20th and early 21st centuries who served as the 8th Permanent Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and gave numerous masterful performances in Japanese concert halls. As mentioned above, he is also notable as a conductor, but during his two-year stay in Paris after the war, he studied composition under Nadia Boulanger and Honegger, and as a composer he occupied an important position in the Polish musical school after Lutosławski. Many fans may have been exposed to his works as he often featured his own compositions in concerts with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. The Polish Dux label offers a unique opportunity to hear Sukrowaczewski's chamber works, which were influenced by Bruckner and his close relationship with leading 20th century composers such as Boulez, Stockhausen, and NONO, performed by the finest performers in his native Poland.
