Description:
The oratorio is based on the story of the Israelites' deliverance from slavery in Egypt, from the Old Testament book of Exodus, famous for Moses' Ten Commandments. While Handel's oratorio "The Israelites in Egypt" is relatively well known, Telemann also wrote an oratorio based on the same theme. The work was written in the composer's later years, and the writing is surprisingly full and rich. The music is full of power and is very enjoyable to listen to. The collection also includes a work by Johann Heinrich Rohre, a little-known German composer, based on the same subject matter. This is also a substantial work, and is quite music to listen to.
