Description:

Promising American violinist Nathan Meltzer makes his debut! He plays a Stradivarius 1734 "Ames, Totenberg", a famous instrument that was returned to him 35 years after it was stolen! Champs Hill Records, a British label that discovers and introduces promising young artists, presents the debut recording of promising American violinist Nathan Meltzer! Nathan Meltzer was born in the U.S., moved to Vienna at the age of 4, started playing violin at the age of 8, returned to the U.S. at 10 to study with Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at the prestigious Juilliard School, and in 2017 became the youngest ever winner of the Windsor Festival International String Competition, Britain's premier string competition. He is a Rising Star, having been selected as the youngest ever winner of the Windsor Festival International String Competition in 2017, and in 2020, along with Momone Hattori and others, for a career grant from the Salon de Virtuosi, an organization that supports young musicians. Also noteworthy is the instrument he plays. The Stradivarius 1734 "Ames" was owned by Roman Totenberg, a Polish violinist and teacher who made great achievements as a violinist and teacher in the United States. One of Antonio Stradivari's late masterpieces, stolen in 1980 and miraculously returned 35 years later in 2015, but with the dramatic episode that its owner, Totenberg, had died three years earlier. In 2018, the American Rare Violins In Consortium on long-term loan of this Stradivarius 1734 "Ames, Totenberg," Meltzer will give a recital on November 15, 2019, in the halls of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is the location of the office where the violin was stolen 39 years ago, and Totenberg himself played in the same hall in 1980. This CD was recorded in England a few days after that recital. The program consists of the professor's favorite repertoire, including Wieniawski's "Polonaise for Concert" and Shimanowski's "Mythology," which Totenberg performed in front of President Roosevelt at the White House in 1936, and other enduring works, including violin sonatas by Bach and Franck The program consists of.Nathan Meltzer makes full use of the lustrous tone of "Ames, Totenberg" and effectively employs an enchanting and graceful vibrato in these masterpieces.
