Description:
NID Tapes (National Institute of Design) in Ahmadabad, western India, compiles early Indian electronic music! Recordings from 1969-72 by such unknown Indian composers as Gita Sarabhai, I.S. Mathur, Atul Desai, S.C. Shama, and Jinraj Joshipura are included. These pioneers worked in India's first electronic music studio, established within the NID, during the post-independence utopian period when the spirit of experimentation and artistic freedom of thought by visionary musicians was rapidly developing. The studio was established in the fall of 1969, with the support of David Choudhur, and was the first to be equipped with the Moog modular system and tape machines. Because of this, excerpts from Tudor's work are included in this album.
