And 2023--The Streets will release their first full studio album in about 12 years, since 2011's "COMPUTER AND BLUES"! THE DARKER THE SHADOW, THE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT". This album, which is also the soundtrack to the movie of the same name, marks the return of the Streets' "royal sound and lyricism". It is the result of Mike Skinner's decade or so of honing his unique lyrical genius and beats while working as a bass/rap DJ in the clubs. All of the songs were written by Skinner, with longtime collaborators Kevin Mark Trail and Robert Harvey, as well as Teef as featured vocalists. The lead single from the album is "Troubled Waters".The euphoric synth sounds, Skinner's trademark lyrical flow, and minimalist half-step beats are all here, along with realistic storytelling that is typical of Skinner. The second half of the track features a simple drum and bass beat. About his first full-length album in quite a while, Skinner says: "I've been working on this album and film for seven long years. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time, and after dipping my toe into some short films and music videos, I felt I was ready. I thought for a moment about following traditional procedures, but I trusted my instincts and since it worked better if I did it myself, I directed, starred in, edited, mixed the soundtrack, financed, produced, and produced the whole thing myself. This album is a work that would not be possible without the film.It all culminated in 10 years of the DJ circuit, observing people in clubs and back rooms, experimenting with beats and basslines, and it all culminated in THE DARKER THE SHADOW THE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT", a film set in the club circuit of London. THE DARKER THE SHADOW THE BRIGHTER THE LIGHT is a noir-murder mystery set in London's club scene. This album is a musical expression of the new story Mike Skinner is telling. (2/2)
