Piano Trio with ancient melody, Piano Quintet with mournful beauty Franco Alfano, a composer known for finishing the ending of "Turandot" from Puccini's notes at the request of Toscanini and Riccardi, has shown great skill not only in opera but also in instrumental works, and the two chamber pieces on this album are also clearly distinct and The two chamber pieces on this album are masterpieces with clear personalities and are well worth listening to. The Piano Trio, entitled "Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in A major," was begun in 1929 and premiered in Rome in 1930. It was first performed in Rome in 1930, and received a glowing critical reception for its clarity, expressiveness, powerful structure, and the composer's signature elements of effervescent songfulness and fullness of episodes. Alfano's last chamber work, the Piano Quintet in A-flat major, was composed in 1945. Here, too, there is a desire to return to stylistic ideas of the past, as if to idealize them.It seems like an unreasonable desire for someone who was in Italy during the war, and the mournful chords seem to express such sentiments. The booklet (12 pages in English and Italian) includes commentary by Marcello Miramonti and Enrico Graziani, who performed the piece.
