Missing from the history of the French Baroque, this boxed set includes the surviving works of Christophe Moiraud, a composer who was a contemporary of Rameau. One possible reason for his failure to achieve the fame of Couperin and Rameau is said to be that he was from Orleans, France, and remained there, never working in the capital, Paris. Also, although the details of his career are unknown, there is a record that he listed his occupation as "organist" on the marriage certificate of the church in his hometown in 1726, and it seems that he lived as a church organist. In 1753, he compiled his own compositions into a six-volume collection of clavesan tunes, which numbered 126 and included a wide variety of pieces. The 126 pieces in this collection are diverse in style, yet consistent in musicality. The works are mainly suites, including overtures, sonatas, and solo concertos. In particular, the "Six Sinfonias" for harpsichord is one of Moiraud's representative works.
