Produced by the legendary Terry Melcher and featuring future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, the surf/hot rod group Rip Caws was formed in 1957 by Ernie Bringas and Phil Stewart and signed with Columbia in 1962. Melcher, who was only 20 years old at the time, was assigned to produce the duo's first single "Here I Stand" in 1963, which reached #51 on the US charts. Bruce Johnston soon joined the band for the release of the second single, "Gone. Melcher wrote "Hey Little Cobra," written with Carol Connors and released under the Ripcords name, with Melcher's vocals and Johnston's excellent falsetto, this single reached #4 on the US charts in 64. In the summer of 64, Jean Barry of Jean & Dean and In the summer of 1964, they had another hit with "Three Window Coupe," written by Roger Christian and Jan Barry of Jean & Dean. These are two classic albums created by the talent of Melcher & Johnston and the California of this era.
