Description:

A musician's musician" - it must be a great pleasure for any musician to be called a "musician's musician. And that is because he or she has reached the level of a "virtuoso" or "maestro," in other words, a "master" as a musician. Alan Holdsworth is one of the few musicians and guitarists who have reached the level of such a "maestro. His numerous albums are now available on hybrid SACD! After "Road Games," Alan Holdsworth had been steadily producing albums and touring, but the bankruptcy of Enigma Records was an unexpected event for him. He began looking for a new contract to produce his next album, but indie labels and major labels alike were extremely reluctant to sign progressive rock and jazz/fusion acts. Holdsworth contacted several companies through music publishers, hoping to get a contract in the Japanese market, where he had a large fan base.As a result, he signed a contract with Victor Music Industry (now Victor Entertainment), which launched a new Western jazz/fusion label. He recorded a work featuring syntax throughout with Jimmie Johnson, Gary Husband, Chad Wackerman, and others. The album, entitled "Sand," was released in April 1987 in Japan. This album has a different feel from his previous works due to the use of syntax, and is composed of songs that are more reminiscent of new age music than a guitar album. Aiming to express the Coltrane sound on the guitar, Holdsworth used the syntax breath control to make the guitar sound more like a saxophone with the strength of his breath. An experimental work that shows the Holdsworth of the time, who was searching for his next direction!
