Description:

Long-awaited! FAR OUT RECORDINGS is pleased to announce the world premiere reissue of two Jazz Bossa albums by the late José Joberto Beltrami, the keyboardist and bandleader of Azimuth, from the early days of his career. As a member of Azimuth and an exceptional keyboardist, he performed not only with domestic artists such as Elis Regina, Milton Nascimento, and Marcos Valli, but also with North American musicians such as George Duke, Sarah Vaughan, and Eddie Palmieri. The late José Joberto Beltrami was one of Brazil's leading maestros. Born in 1946 in Tatui, a small town in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, to a father who was a professor at the prestigious Tatui Conservatory of Music, he was the eldest of seven children. José Joberto Beltrami, but his life as a musician had a tumultuous start: he started playing the piano at the age of seven, but lost interest after about two years, spending most of his time playing soccer and otherwise enjoying life off the rails. Beltrami himself described himself as a "professional wanderer" when he looked back on that time.Beltrami's mother, unable to bear the sight of him in such a state, sent him to a charitable institution, where he was expelled after two years for his outlandish behavior, including holding jam sessions on his own. Beltrami's life was in shambles, but when he discovered the music of Bill Evans and Miles Davis, he began to pour his passion into jazz. In his late teens, he commuted by train to the center of São Paulo to play in nightclubs and deepened his friendship with many musicians. The two titles reissued in this issue were recorded at the beginning of Beltrami's career. This one is called "OS TATUIS" (The Tatouis), which was recorded and released in 1965. The combo, consisting of a piano trio with his brother Claudio on bass and Eliseu on drums, a trumpet, a tenor saxophone, and an organ for some songs, plays songs by Jobim and other bossa maestros such as Roberto Menescal, Carlos Lira, and Durval Fejaira, as well as his own original compositions "OS TATUIS" (The Tatuys). The group recorded a number of songs by Jobim and other bossa maestros such as Roberto Menescal, Carlos Lira, and Durval Fejeira, as well as his own original composition "A Bossa Do Ze Roberto. The label is FARROUPILHA, a long-established jazz-bossa label in São Paulo that has produced excellent works by the Jongo Trio, Pedrinho Matar, and others. This is one of the best albums on the label and a favorite among bossa nova and jazz bossa collectors.
