Nick Drake's meditative folk meets Clubi da Esquina! Following in the footsteps of Barra Desejo and Ana Frango Eletrico, Rio de Janeiro's big newcomer, Nicolas Geraldi, releases his debut album! Nicolas Geraldi is a 25-year-old singer/songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has been involved in music since he was a child, and formed his first band, Ente, when he was 18 years old. He was in charge of the bass guitar. However, in 2022, Nicholas left the band. He decided to concentrate on his solo career. This work, "Em Outro Lugar do Ceu" (2024), is his memorable first solo album. The most distinctive feature of his music is that it is heavily influenced by Minas music, especially the "clubi da esquina" (which means "street corner club" and refers to the family of music in Minas led by Milton Nascimento) from the 1970s through the 1980s. The influence is not so much from Milton Nascimento as from more rock-oriented artists such as Lo Borges, Beto Gettis, and Flavio Venturini.The ecstatic voice like a hymn, the romanticism typical of Minas, the shimmering guitar tone, the lyrical melodies.... Each song is filled with longing and love for "Clubi da Esquina. At the same time, the music is inspired by George Harrison, Nick Drake, Mac DeMarco, and even the magnificent nature of Rio de Janeiro, all of whom Nicholas admires and respects. The musicians who participate in the project are also gorgeous, including Guillermi Lirio (Gt./Producer), Sergio Machado (Dr.), Alberto Continentino (Ba.), and Dora Morelenbaum (Vo.), who have worked with Ana Frango Eletrico and Barra Desegio, among others, and who have been active in the contemporary Brazilian music scene. The band features a lineup of musicians who support the contemporary Brazilian music scene. This lineup is unusual for a debut album, and is evidence that many musicians are paying tribute to his exceptional talent.This is a masterpiece recommended for fans of Brazilian music from the 70s and 80s, recent alternative rock from Brazil such as Chin Bernardes and Leonardo Marques, singer/songwriters with evergreen appeal such as George Harrison and Nick Drake, and even indie rock. This is a masterpiece that I recommend to all fans of indie rock!
