Olivier Patey, principal clarinet of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO), conducts the Camerata RCO, a chamber ensemble composed of members of the RCO, in a recording of Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 for small orchestra. This is a recording not to be missed, as the melodic beauty of this work, including the famous second movement, can be appreciated in a sound different from that of a full orchestra. The ten-member ensemble includes five strings, clarinet, horn, timpani, piano, and accordion, and it is noteworthy that this is a different arrangement from the chamber ensemble versions commonly used, which are co-arranged by Hans Eisler, Erwin Stein, and Karl Rankl. Enjoy this fresh performance of Bruckner's most popular work, which brought him international fame, with the clarity that only a small ensemble of the RCO's finest can provide.Clarinetist Olivier Patey, born in France in 1981, began his career as a soloist by winning the Audience Prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition and the First Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Competition. He also joined the Garde Republiquaine in Paris at the age of 20, and has since established himself with such prestigious orchestras as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and has been principal of the RCO since 2013. In this recording, he takes on the role of conductor, successfully bringing together a group of colleagues who are each highly skilled in their own right, while also bringing out the best in each of them.
