Description:

SONY DADC Pressed Limited Edition for Japan! Includes Japanese commentary! Unprecedented composition! Verdi's Requiem! The Great Animal Orchestra and a new arrangement of Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals" are among the many ambitious works by the British composer, Richard Blackford. The Bach Choir, one of the finest choirs in the world, was founded in 1876 and was the first to perform Bach's Mass in B minor in the UK. Over its nearly 150-year history, the choir has performed works by a wide range of composers, from Bach, Mozart, and Verdi to contemporary composers, under such distinguished music directors as Stanford, Vaughan Williams, and David Wilcox, in order to preserve the choral tradition for future generations. The current music director is the renowned master musician Day. At the suggestion of master music director David Hill, the current music director, an astonishingly arranged version of the Requiem was created, featuring chorus, two pianos, organ, and percussion, something that had never been done before. Not only does it beautifully reproduce the wide range of colors originally played by a full orchestra, with the dynamic brilliance of the piano and percussion and the diverse timbres of the organ, but it also explores the possibilities of orchestration with its own unique and distinctive sound world. While retaining the charm of the original version, the sound that sets it apart opens up a new world to this great masterpiece. Tokyo M-Plus
