Description:
The setting is the student district of Paris circa 1830. Four bohemians living for the day: the poet Rodolfo, the painter Marcello, the musician Seanard, and the philosopher Colline, and the love and separation of Mimi, a seamstress, and Rodolfo, who live in the same apartment... Based on Henri Murgère's novel "Bohemian Based on Henri Murgère's novel "Scenes from a Bohemian Life," this opera is an eternal coming-of-age story that is one of Puccini's most popular operas, and was written to the composer's own specifications. The setting of this production, directed by the genius Hareheim, is a modern hospital intensive care unit, where the patient Mimi breathes her last breath at the same time the opera opens. Unable to accept the death of his lover Mimi, Rodolfo escapes into his memories of the past and finally accepts his lover's death through a process of reliving his encounter with Mimi, their separation, and her death in a fantasy.Diego Torre as Rodolfo sings with realism to Puccini's emotional music under the baton of Norwegian conductor Ivin Gullberg Jensen, Marita Solberg sings the fantasy Mimi with a beautiful voice, and the talented singers cast as the Bohemian friends (in this production they are imitated as doctors and nurses) are superb in their acting and singing. The acting and singing of the talented singers cast as the Bohemian friends (who in this production are imitated as doctors and nurses) are superb. The performance of Swine Erik Sagbloten, who plays several supporting roles in the story as the incarnation of the Grim Reaper, is particularly memorable. This is a transfer of the Electric Picture EPC01 (DVD)/EPC02 (Blu-ray) released in 2013 with Japanese subtitles. Naxos Japan
