Dušan Bogdanović is a guitarist and composer from Yugoslavia. After winning the first prize at the Geneva International Competition, he gave his debut recital at Carnegie Hall. His varied recording career includes co-authoring Prisms with Sting. His music embodies the diversity of our time, blending Renaissance, classical, world folk music (especially Eastern European and African), and jazz. The album includes works that represent Bogdanovich's entire career, with many of his later works dedicated to guitarist Daniela Rossi, who plays here. The early Sonata No. 1 is marked by the influence of Bartók and Stravinsky and Balkan folk music. The "Big Band Suite" and "Variations in Latin Style" from the California period show a fusion of classical and jazz, with dense counterpoint and a variety of rhythms that draw the listener in. The later works include "Rossignol," which incorporates Rossi's name, two variations, "Sonatina," and others, reflecting a multifaceted creative world that includes improvisational and folk elements, the adoption of classical forms, and the use of complex counterpoint.
