Composer Frederic Curzon was born in London. He amazed his teachers by playing violin, cello, piano, and organ, and demonstrated his musical talent at an early age by composing Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis at the age of 12, which were performed by the local choir, and by the age of 16 he was playing piano in a London theater orchestra, and by 20 he had his own By the time he was 20, he had his own orchestra and was composing accompaniment music for silent films. He was also one of the first to purchase an electronic organ when it was imported to the U.K. and is recorded giving a demonstration recital. However, he was not very active as a composer, and it was only with the encouragement of Ralph Hawkes of the publishing house Boosey & Hawkes and his wife Gladys Marian Fowler, who took notice of his talent, that he finally established himself as a composer on his own. The album features some cleverly written Curzon pieces, including "Bourbardière," which depicts a man walking down a Parisian boulevard. Naxos Japan
