Description:
Augustin Harderich, whose technique and intelligent interpretation earned him a Grammy nomination for his 2021 release "Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin", has recorded a concerto work related to Spain, with the delicate and profound Spanish title "Recuerdos The delicate and profound Spanish title "Recuerdos" means "Memories". The WDR Symphony Orchestra and its principal conductor, Christian Macerl, will perform Britten's Violin Concerto, Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2, and Sarasate's Fantasia on Carmen. Talega's famous "Memories of the Alhambra," arranged for solo violin by Ruggiero Ricci, is placed last. Britten's Violin Concerto, first performed in 1939 by Spanish violinist Antonio Broza, was written as a sentiment to the terrible Spanish Civil War of 1936-39 and is said to express the pacifist composer's anguish over this civil war. The Spanish Civil War broke out only a few months after the premiere of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in Madrid. This concerto was written partially in Spain, just before Britten's concerto.Prokofiev's expressionist style was a major inspiration for Britten, and Prokofiev's use of castanets in the last movement relates to both Bizet and Britten's rhythms. One of Sarasate's masterpieces, the "Carmen Fantasy" was written in 1882, seven years after the premiere of Bizet's "Carmen. Despite the rich ornamentation, his arrangement remains very close to Bizet's original, composed with the most difficult technique while focusing on bringing to life the typical Spanish sound patterns, characters and emotions. The solo violin arrangement of "Memories of the Alhambra," Talega's sad and beautiful guitar meditation, by virtuoso violinist Ruggiero Ricci, uses a "ricochet" technique to mimic the guitar's tremolo technique (bouncing the bow and slurring it with the down bow to make the notes connect in short bursts). The "Ricochet" technique is used to imitate the tremolo technique. When heard after the Britten Concerto, "Memories of the Alhambra" feels like a poignant meditation on loss. To understand this, you don't have to have seen the Alhambra or be a scholar of the Spanish Civil War. You need to be human and sensitive to the suffering that surrounds us in this world," Harderich said.Only imports handled by Warner Music Japan, with Japanese-language commentary and Japanese obi, Japanese-language commentary includes a Japanese translation of Augustin Haderich's own commentary on the work (1/2) Warner Music Japan
