Arabella Miho Steinbacher is a stunning violinist who combines popularity with exceptional talent. The New York Times has praised her, noting, “A fine balance of lyricism and passion—her strengths lie particularly in her polished technique and beautiful, versatile tone.” This album marks the second installment of Mozart’s violin concertos and is her first Mozart recording in eight years, following the first installment (PTC-5186479), recorded in 2013, which featured Violin Concertos Nos. 3–5. As with the first installment, she is accompanied by the Lucerne Festival String Ensemble (Lucerne String Ensemble, Lucerne Festival String Ensemble) led by Daniel Dodds! This second volume features Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2, as well as the Adagio and Rondo for Violin and Orchestra. Steinbacher’s Mozart—graceful and lustrous—is simply exquisite. For the concertos, we have adopted cadenzas composed by Wolfgang Schneiderhan, who is also the ensemble’s founder. Thanks to the deep trust we’ve built with him, you can fully savor the rich, full-bodied sound of Mozart. Additionally, this recording features a 1716 Stradivarius named “ExBennoWalter.” Benno Walter (1847–1901) was a violinist to whom Richard Strauss dedicated his Violin Concerto; this instrument, once owned by a musician closely associated with a composer whom Steinbacher deeply admired, delivers a performance brimming with joy. In addition to the superb performance, the recording was produced by the technical team at PENTATONE, including Eld Groot and Jean-Marie Heysen. Please note that this disc is in CD format.
