Description:
Frank Peter Zimmermann recorded a series of masterpieces from Eastern Europe. A high degree of balance between dignity and passion, overwhelming perfection! Frank Peter Zimmermann, born in 1965, has been a star German violinist since early on, and has continued to perform internationally. He has been praised as an "orthodox violinist who takes the high road" for his careful selection and perfection of his repertoire without being carried away by current trends or frivolity. Zimmermann's recent interests include Bartók and other Eastern European composers, and from 2019-21 he has recorded Bartók's Solo Violin Sonata (BISSA2457) and Two Rhapsodies (BISSA2657) for BIS (the Violin Concerto was released on the Berlin Philharmonic's own label, recorded in 2016). This release features two sonatas for violin and piano. The composer has a firm overview and grasp of both pieces, which have many experimental aspects, and implements the techniques for a wide variety of acoustics that the composer included. The piano of Dmitro Choni, a native of Ukraine with whom Zimmermann has collaborated since 2023, is also noteworthy. He is a great pianist, and he is able to express the exotic atmosphere and mysterious colors of this piece, and he is able to compete with Zimmermann, who is about the same age as his father and son. Zimmermann has released Bartók's works in couplings with works by Martinů and Stravinsky, but this time he will perform one of Shimanowski's masterpieces, "Mythology," a work that has been increasingly performed in recent years. This disc is a long-awaited release for fans of this work, which has been increasingly performed in recent years, and features a penetrating interpretation of every detail of this work, which is even more mysterious and contemplative than Bartók's, and a performance of the highest degree of perfection.
