Alban Tixier, a new generation luthier, has released his debut album (ENP016), which highlights the proximity between the aristocratic society of the French Renaissance and the Flemish school of music. The music on this second En Phases release is a selection of pieces that traces the genealogy of lute music from the late Middle Ages through folk and popular songs to the Renaissance and the Baroque (......). Traveling through Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the British Isles, and other parts of Europe, Txiye quietly reminds us of the "here and now" with his well-polished and beautiful tone, which is now difficult to trace back to its original formation, and which radiates an irresistible charm. As on the previous album, some of the tracks on this album feature singing and high register gamba, and the unexpected accents in the song order are also very pleasing. Frank Jafres, a master recording engineer who has long been providing exquisite old instrument recordings for Zig-Zag Territoires, also does a fine job, and this is a thoroughly enjoyable album that will immerse you in a thoroughly elegant acoustic experience.
