Description:

Toshiyuki Shibata & Anthony Romaniuk's second Bach album with their unique essence! Toshiyuki Shibata, flauto traverso player, and Anthony Romaniuk, keyboard player, have been playing Bach for the past two years. The duo, whose Bach sonata collection, based on an interpretation rooted in period technique with original compositions and improvisations, has been the talk of the town, will now present a stimulating performance of works by Bach and his sons, in their own unique way. The concept of our new album is to "bridge the gap between past and present music" and to embody the spirit of Art Nouveau, which effortlessly blends tradition and innovation. (Shibata), "We are often seen as 'two mavericks', perhaps because of the artist photos, but in fact we are musicians who have studied for many years in Belgian ensembles that value a very conservative approach. In fact, we are musicians who have studied for many years in a Belgian ensemble that values a very conservative approach, and then, in a very modest way, put a "sprinkle" of our own sensibilities on the music - that's all.The original prelude is a unique interpretation, but in fact it follows the custom of the time when the boundary between composer and performer was not so clear. In Kemp's version of "Siciliano," the right-hand melody is performed by Traverso, and in the Suite for Lautenwerk, BWV 997, Traverso joins in with a newly written doble (variation). The performance is a wonderful example of how the musicians, who have experienced jazz and rock music in their modern lives, can bring out the best in their works without feeling out of place in the musical progression while making use of their new sensibilities.
