Philip Scharwenka was a German composer of Polish descent, known as a pianist and composer. His younger brother Franz Xaver, three years older than him, was also an outstanding musician. Philip studied music with his brother at the New Music Academy in Berlin, and in 1874 presented his own overture and symphony at a concert, which was at the forefront of German composers at the time. His works were soon forgotten after his death. This second collection contains his early works. It includes fumoresques (humoresques), mazurkas, and rhapsodies that show the influence of Chopin and Brahms. As in the first collection, the music is performed by Luis Pipa. Naxos Japan
