Yarlung Records, popular with audiophiles in the U.S. and Europe, presents a remarkable LP. Recorded in 2007 by Orion Weiss, the LP was cut by renowned American mastering engineer Bernie Grundman. The lacquer disc was demonstrated at the High End Audio Show in Munich, where it received a great response, and the decision was made to release it commercially. The sound source itself is the same as the CD (YR-78873), but the Elliott Carter and Scriabin sonatas are omitted in order to fit the 45rpm disc. The original sound source was recorded directly on a 24-bit 2-channel digital recorder without any mixing, using only two Neumann U-47s of the original specifications with metal vacuum tubes VF-14s. The microphone setup was designed to meet the ideal of piano recording, and the microphone amp and other peripheral equipment were made in-house by Pallas, a long-established German company founded in 1948, and pressed.
