Born in Mannheim, Werner Heinrich Schmitt began studying piano as a boy and studied composition in parallel. His compositional style is tonal music influenced by the late Romantic period, and he had considered studying film music as a teenager. The singer Von Donck asked him to compose "Four Romances on Poems by Hermann Hesse," which was written at her request as a combination of voice and piano quintet, creating a richly poetic world in which words and music are combined. Memories," written in mourning for the death of his mother, is followed by scenes of China in its natural beauty, a funeral march for his mother, music for prayers for the dead in Egypt, and ends with the bright Helderlin's "Hyperion. Other pieces include pieces for piano, his forte, and ensembles for cello and clarinet. This is a collection that shows Schmidt's talent as a composer without regret! (Naxos Japan)
