Schütz's masterpiece, Funeral with Music, composed in 1636 and dedicated to his lifelong friend, the humanist Heinrich Reuss, is a German vocal work, while J.S. Bach's Lamentations is known as a work that reflects the view of life and death at the time, and while both are about death, they are also about the soul.
